For thousands of years, Rock Spring was a crucial link in a chain of springs that allowed Native Americans to cross the harsh Mojave. After becoming an Army encampment in the later 19th century, then a point for contention near the turn of the century, all that remains is rock rubble and a few holes in the ground.
