Desert Indians - Petroglyphs

First Inhabitants

Archeologists do not know for certain how long people have lived in the California Desert. We do know that people were living in the California Desert 10,000 to 12,000 years ago. Editor's Note:
When Indians of historic times were asked about who may have made these, they did not know themselves, and responded with attributing their creation to, "the Ancient Ones". If these were ancestors of the Native Americans living in the area during more modern times, any oral history had been lost over the many centuries and generations. It seems unlikely that people in these earlier times were related.
